HSOC Foundation - On a Mission
Founded in 1994, the Henry Shaw Ozark Corridor
Foundation focuses on an area in the southwest
part of the greater St. Louis metropolitan region
in Missouri an area of transition from
metropolitan and suburban characteristics to forested
Ozark foothills. Named in honor of the founder
of the world-renowned Missouri Botanical Garden,
this nonprofit foundation is a partnership among
residents, businesses, nonprofit organizations,
state, county and municipal governments, property
owners, and interested citizens dedicated to our
mission of protecting and enhancing the Corridor's
natural heritagethe Ozarkswhile promoting
sustainable economic and community activity. As
commitments are made by new partners from the
public, private and nonprofit sectors, the north
and south boundaries of the Corridor will change
through time, defined by the partners themselves.
At the center of our efforts are these questions:
- How do we carefully manage our natural resources?
- How do we exercise a full measure of respect
toward our fellow citizens?
- What will the communities of the future look
like?
- How will those communities function?
- How do we inspire people to take action on
what is preciousnamely, our natural heritage?
The answers to these questions will determine
the health and vitality of the Corridor.
